Core Competencies for Targeted Case Management (TCM): Learn essential case management skills, including client engagement, crisis management, strength-based case management, documentation, cultural awareness, and advocacy. This 12-hour course lays the foundation for working with individuals facing serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorders (SUD), and more.
To become a fully certified Targeted Case Manager in Kentucky, you must meet the full educational and experience requirements of 908 KAR 2:260 (found in section 2 of the linked page and briefly outlined below):
- Educational Requirement: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, such as Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, Sociology, or other human services fields.
- Experience Requirement: At least one year of full-time experience working in behavioral health, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorder fields is typically required. (Note: The experience requirement may be waived if you hold a Master’s Degree or higher in one of these fields.)
- Training Requirement: Complete the 12-hour core curriculum and the specialized 6-hour courses in SMI, SUD, SED, and Co-Occurring Physical and Behavioral Health conditions.
- Supervision Requirement: During the first year of employment, monthly supervision by a behavioral health professional is required to provide ongoing support as you gain experience.
