Dental Radiography Safety is a six-hour course in dental radiography for dental assistants. An additional 4-hour Dental Radiography Technique course is also available to satisfy all state requirements for dental assistants.

Course Objectives:
	- Discuss radiation history and development of radiation
 
	- Explain the properties and uses of radiation
 
	- Describe the process of ionization
 
	- Review exposure factors and how they affect radiographic image
 
	- Discuss radiation safety and define the ALARA concept
 
	- Explain x-ray interaction with matter, as well as potential biological effects
 
	- Discuss occupational considerations, including infection control, quality assurance, and legal concerns
 
	- Compare image receptors and identify parts of x-ray machine and their functions
 
	- Discuss the principles of intraoral techniques: bitewing, periapical and occlusal imaging
 
	- Mount and label radiographic images, using common anatomical landmarks
 
	- Review criteria for diagnostic radiographs- in technique, recognizing errors, and correcting errors
 
	- Discuss the purpose and use of panoramic imaging
