Shielded/Gas Metal Arc Welding

The McCall Center for Welding Technology at Gateway Community and Technical College (GCTC) is now available to offer certifications in structural steel and certifications for bridge construction through the Kentucky Department of Transportation.

The department adheres and follows all welding procedures, regulations, codes, standards, and guidelines set forth by the American Welding Society as detailed in their D.1.1. code book.

There are now a total of six certification options available.

Upon Completion, welders will receive an official certification and wallet size certification verification cards.

• GCTC had previously offered just one certification through this entity but now can offer several in multiple welding processes.

• Any employer can send employees for initial certification or re-certification without having to attend classes or have prior welding training from Gateway.

• Private individuals can test without having to attend classes or have prior welding training from Gateway. Welders may choose any or all of the certification tests available.

• All performance and qualification test are modeled and designed according to the national standards set by The American Welding Society’s D.1.1 Code Book for Structural Steel Welding Certification and Guidelines.

• Certifications are for unlimited thickness on material and multiple position welding procedures including vertical and overhead.
