Social Documentary Photography

Since the early days of the medium, photography has been used for social change. In addition to surveying the genre of Social Documentary Photography, each student will select a social justice theme to use as a basis for their photography throughout the duration of this course. Students will work with local non-profits/community partners on subject matter for projects. Students will learn the basics of Photoshop and prepare their photos to be part of a special exhibit in the TIE gallery. Students will benefit greatly from the expertise of instructor Steve Oldfield, award winning documentary filmmaker and nationally syndicated film critic. Students should bring their own camera, of any kind, including cell phones.

Students will also need to purchase/create their own online account for Adobe Photoshop, current prices are $9.99 per month for photography plan. Instructor will discuss during first class meeting.
